DANIEL NINE: TWENTY-FOUR THROUGH TWENTY-SEVEN

"Seventy weeks [70 X 7 "weeks" of years, or 490 years]

are determined upon thy people [Israel]

and upon thy holy city [Jerusalem],

to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks [49 years refers to the time it took to rebuild the Temple and the city],

and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.  And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself [434 years between the rebuilding and the crucifixion of Christ]

and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary [Rome in A.D. 70];

and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.  And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week [Daniel's Seventieth Week; the Time of Jacob's Trouble (Jer. 30:7); the two halves of the Tribulation (Dan. 9:27; Mt. 24:15; Rev. 11-13)]:

and in the midst of the week, he [the prince that shall come (Dan. 9:25); the Man of Sin (2 Th. 2:3); the Antichrist (1 Jn. 2:18); the Beast (Rev. 13:1-9)]

shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate [Dan. 11:31; 12:11; Mt. 24:15; Rev. 13:4-6]."
